Surf Fishing Schools

2012 will mark the 19th year for the Outer Banks Surf Fishing School. The School is a unique program that offers a comprehensive introduction to surf fishing. Hands-on "classroom" sessions and instructional sessions on the beach are combined with fishing the surf on Hatteras Island.  During the beach fishing days, you will have plenty of time for one-on-one sessions with the instructors.

OCTOBER 18-21, 2012 SCHOOL SCHEDULE
TUITION FOR EACH SCHOOL IS $330.00 PER PERSON, ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED

MAXIMUM OF 25 PARTICIPANTS PER SCHOOL

The instructors, Joe Malat and Mac Currin, are experienced surf fishing experts and skilled “hands-on” teachers who offer friendly, personal instruction in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The program is geared toward beginners, but experienced surfcasters will learn valuable information that will help them put more fish on the beach!

Classroom sessions are held at the Comfort Inn South Oceanfront in Nags Head.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18
Each school begins at 6 pm on Thursday evening, with a discussion of the program schedule and an overview of Outer Banks fishing opportunities from the Gulf Stream to the soundside backwaters.  After the classroom session we’ll enjoy a casual "get acquainted" social and swap a few fish tales.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19
The classroom day begins at 8:30 am, with coffee and juice. Lunch is provided.  We adjourn around 4:30 pm. Dinner is on your own.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20
A full day of instruction and fishing on the beach.  Meet around 6 am (exact time will be determined on Friday afternoon) in the Comfort Inn parking lot and return around 4:30.  Dinner is on your own.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21
We head to the beach again and return to the motel meeting room around 11 am for a final wrap-up session and more door prize give-aways.

Topics covered include Fish Identification, Rods & Reels, Lures & Baits, Knot Tying, Terminal Tackle, Beach Driving and Reading the Beach

Everyone will receive an autographed copy of the Second Edition of Joe Malat’s book “Surf Fishing” and our sponsors provide some sample hooks, rigs and a few lures.

Participants will need to provide their own rod and reel, but all bait is provided during the fishing days.

A North Carolina Coastal Recreational Fishing License is required. To save some time while you are on the Outer Banks, we strongly recommend you make the purchase in advance. For information about the CRFL visit www.ncfisheries.net or call 1-800-682-2632.

Accommodations are not included in the tuition.   For a list of available motels, hotels and cottages go to the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau at http://www.outerbanks.org.
